‘Tis The Season: Tips and Tricks for Awesome Holiday Hair

I absolutely love the holidays. It’s such a special, social time of year when you get to spend quality time with the people you care about, whether you see them everyday or just a few times a year.

It’s also the season of events; parties, dinners, endless celebrations. And where there’s an event, there’s a look.

Admit it, we put a lot of thought into what we’re going to wear, how we’re going to do our makeup and, most importantly of course, the perfect holiday hair to tie it all together.

I love it, because it gives me a chance to play with my personal style. So don’t stress, enjoy it!

So, What is Holiday Hair?

I think it’s important not to overdo it when it comes to your holiday look. You don’t need to do anything over the top or make a big change to your look (save that for New Years!) Because so many of our holiday events are work related, it’s also important to coordinate looks that translate easily from day to night and try to keep it a bit professional but also really warm, cosy and inviting.

I always tell my clients that Holidays are all about presenting a more polished, refined version of what you’re already doing day to day. So the focus should be on just being more attentive and purposeful in how you style your hair. But, if you need a little inspiration, I'm here to help.

3 Holiday Hairstyles We Love

The Polished Wave

The polished wave is really in right now, and for good reason!

It’s super easy to pull off, it’s great for any length and style, and it’s a perfect compliment to a one-length cut (which is so hot right now).

To get this look use a flat iron and draw it over 1-2 inch sections of hair. Choose how big you want your sections to be depending on your length, the thickness of your hair, and how big you want your waves to be.

Draw the flat iron from root to tip while twisting the flat iron towards the back of your head so the waves draw back and away from the face.

Remember to always keep your straightener in constant movement so you can avoid any stiff kinks for flowing waves. And don’t worry, practice makes perfect. Just start at the back of your head and work your way forward, by the time you get to the front, you’ll be perfect!

The Slick Back

Nothing is more timeless than a slick back style and it’s a great holiday look because it’s so versatile and easy to do, anyone can pull it off. It's also a fabulous look if you're in a rush. You literally just swipe and spray.

Drawing all the hair directly back and over the head, use your favorite hairspray, dry shampoo or next day spray to keep your mane in place. I personally recommend the Aveda Dry Shampoo, the L’Oreal Chignon, or L’Oreal’s Next Day Hair, which are all available here at Studio67.

If you’re going for a slick back for the holidays, I’d advise that you steer clear of the wet look. It’s a great style look, but the greasy feel is a bit too much for the holidays, which are more about being soft, fresh and inviting rather than dramatic.

The Ponytail

Ponytails are so underrated right now, but they are one of my absolutely favorite looks. A good ponytail pulls all of the hair away from your face, which gives you a really fresh look, plus it shows off your neck and that’s so sexy but in a really subtle way.

It’s also such a versatile, low maintenance style that it makes a great go-to. High, low, it really doesn’t matter and you can decide on placement based on what you’re wearing. I’d say, the fancier the outfit the lower the tail. If you’re wearing something a bit more downplayed then go higher. I mean, imagine a pants suit with a really high ponytail? It just screams fierce. It says, you’re the boss.

Holiday Must-Haves

Whatever holiday style you choose, remember: hairspray is the key to keeping that polished look going all day/night long. Do yourself a favour, grab a travel sized one and just keep it in your purse for the next couple of weeks.

Mark my words, it will come in handy!

Your new bff: hairspray. Trust me, just trust me. From left to right: Aveda Air Control light hold hairspray; L'Oreal Crepage de Chignon (pronounced 'sheen-waa') mineral powder fixing spray; L'Oreal Next Day Hair texturizing poweder; Aveda Phomollient styling foam; Aveda Thickening Tonic; Aveda Dry Shampure dry shampoo.

If you’re still not sure what you want to do, or you want a little advice on what will work best for you, come by and we’ll talk it out. We're here to help.

Until next time, peace and love to all you fabulous people of Studio67.
